Julien Leblanc

A virtuoso whose enthusiasm is genuinely contagious, Canadian pianist Julien LeBlanc is renowned for his great musical sensibility and his talent as a communicator. Based in Montreal, Julien is a well sought-after soloist, chamber player and accompanist.

Julien’s attentive ear along with his delight in exchanging and sharing have made him a deeply appreciated musical collaborator. He has performed in numerous tours throughout Canada including with Jeunesses musicales du Canada and Debut Atlantic. In 2023, he is touring Quebec and Ontario as pianist and musical director for the opera “Albertine en cinq temps” based on the famous play by Michel Tremblay composed by Catherine Major.

His contribution as Musical Director of Debussy’s opera Pelléas et Mélisande at Against the Grain Theatre was greeted with enthusiastic critical reviews: “LeBlanc, a specialist in French repertoire is an artist of sweeping dimensions. Debussy, a pianist of no small accomplishment himself, would unquestionably agree.” (Opera Going Toronto)

His remarkable qualities as a pianist coupled with his innate musical sense have allowed him to master the solo repertoire with distinctive flair. His CD entitled Melancolies is dedicated to the works of Dutilleux, Franck, and Poulenc. The Ruthland Herald praised his interpretation of this repertoire, stressing that he played “with warmth, clarity and flowing lyricism, all with a natural sense of rhythm”.

Since 2012, Julien has been acting as co-artistic director of the summer concert series Barachois Summer Music in New-Brunswick. He is a part-time teacher at the University of Ottawa where he teaches a Vocal repertoire class and piano ensembles. He has given master classes in several universities across Canada and his frequently asked to sit on juries for music competitions.

Julie Trudeau

After studying with Walter Joachim, Julie Trudeau continued her training in Paris with Philippe Muller, thanks to a grant from the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec. She has performed as a soloist with the Orchestre de chambre de l’Estrie and the symphony orchestras of Sherbrooke, Drummondville and Gatineau, and as cellist with the Molinari Quartet (2000–2007) alongside the Montreal Symphony Orchestra and the Esprit Orchestra of Toronto.

Hailed by the press as a “great cellist” and a performer with “extraordinary virtuosity and emotion”, Julie Trudeau is invited as a soloist, recitalist and chamber musician to numerous festivals and concert societies in America, Europe and Asia. Deeply committed to supporting the next generation of musicians, she works closely with young performers of contemporary music and is regularly called upon to guide the creative process of young composers.

Julie Trudeau is a member of the Ponticello Quartet, the Sela Trio, Ensemble Transmission and the Nouvel Ensemble Moderne. Her recordings are available on the ATMA, XXI-21, Naxos and Disque SRC labels, and her performances can be heard on Radio-Canada/CBC.

For several years now, she has been teaching the cello privately, as well as at the Joseph-François-Perrault School (part of the CSDM), Cégep Marie-Victorin and the Camp musical des Laurentides.

Youkari Cousineau

She joined the Orchestre Métropoliatain in 1998, initially as assistant concertmaster and later as associate principal violist. She is also a member of the Ensemble Magellan, the Quatuor La Muse (which she founded in 2008) and the Ensemble Jean Cousineau. Since September 2018, she has been a visiting lecturer at the University of Montreal. Yukari Cousineau has been invited as a soloist by several Montreal ensembles, including the Appassionata Chamber Orchestra, with whom she performed Locatelli’s Twelfth Concerto, which was broadcast on Radio-Canada.

With the Orchestre Métropolitain, she has performed Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons (Mathieu Lussier), Berg’s Concerto in Memory of an Angel (Julian Kuerti), Mendelssohn’s Concerto in E minor (Kensho Watanabe), Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante for Violin and Viola (with violist Marina Thibeault and Daniele Callegari), Nielsen’s Concerto (Nicolas Ellis), and Walter Boudreau’s *La Vie d’un héros* (Yannick Nézet-Séguin).

As a chamber musician, she has been a member of, amongst others, the Cousineau Trio, the Molinari Quartet, the Leblanc Trio and Les Cordes Romantiques. She has been invited to numerous festivals, including the Festival de Lanaudière, the Mountain View Festival, the Concerts aux Îles du Bic and Un Été à Bourges, where she was invited twice to perform works for solo violin. She has given recitals with Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Alvaro Pierri, Jean Saulnier and Julien LeBlanc. She also performed as a duo with the pianist Mateo Creux for several years. She has performed and recorded on several occasions with her uncle, the pianist and composer François Cousineau.

Immersed in music from a very young age, Yukari is the daughter of Jean Cousineau, founder of the École Les Petits Violons. A precocious talent, she became concertmaster of the Ensemble Les Petits Violons at the age of 11. Her years at Les Petits Violons were marked by numerous concerts, tours and recordings. She subsequently served as concertmaster or principal viola with, amongst others, La Pietà, the McGill Chamber Orchestra, the Appassionata Chamber Orchestra and the Longueuil Symphony Orchestra.

Yukari has worked as a rehearsal coach at the École Les Petits Violons, taught violin and viola at UQAM for several years, and is regularly invited to give masterclasses. Since she began teaching at the Université de Montréal, her students have nicknamed her class ‘Yukateam’.
