BIOGRAPHIES
Ludovic Rochon, pian0
Ludovic Rochon, a 23-year-old pianist from Quebec City, began playing music at the age
of six, exploring various styles before finding his voice in jazz and classical music.
Trained by Jean-William Mantha and Sébastien Champagne, he completed a DEC in
jazz piano at the Cégep de Ste-Foy and won second place in the Prix d’Expression
competition in 2019. At McGill University, Ludovic worked with such jazz luminaries as Jeffrey Johnston and
Marianne Trudel. He also played with Jazz Orchestra 1, sharing the stage with legends
such as Louis Hayes and Charles McPherson. In Montreal, he performs regularly at the
Upstairs Jazz Club. He is currently studying collaborative piano at the Université de
Montréal under the tutelage of Francis Perron. Ludovic won second place in the Nouvel
Ensemble Moderne competition and took part in the Académie Internationale vocale de
Lachine. He also plays in a trio with Emily Roberts and Stéphanie Lavoie, and won first
place in the Université Laval 2024 provincial jazz competition. At the same time, he
accompanies various artists, notably for the semi-finals of the OSM 2024 competition.
Emily Roberts, violoncelle
Emily Roberts is a Canadian-American cellist based in Montreal. She is currently
pursuing her undergraduate studies at McGill University’s Schulich School of Music
under the tutelage of cellist Elizabeth Dolin. Beginning her cello studies at age 14, Emily
was offered the Cassel Grub Scholarship to attend the Interlochen Arts Academy, a
world-renowned institution for young musicians studying with cellist Dr. Patrick Owen.
Having participated in summer festivals such as, Orford Musique and Le Domaine
Forget, Emily has had the privilege of taking part in notable masterclasses with Gary
Hoffman, Marc Coppey, Johannes Moser, Philippe Muller and David Finckel, among
others. A passionate chamber musician, Emily was a finalist in the McGill Chamber
Music Competition as cellist with the Riopelle Trio and has had the immense privilege of
working closely with members of the Ysaye and Emerson String Quartets.
Having held principal positions with the McGill Symphony Orchestra, the Interlochen Arts
Academy Orchestra, the Interlochen Philharmonic Orchestra and the Sarasota Youth
Orchestra, In addition to two seasons as a section cellist with the World Youth
Symphony Orchestra, Emily has performed with soloists James Ehnes and Sarah Chang
under the baton of world-class conductors including JoAnn Falletta, Larry Rachleff,
Jung-Ho Pak and others. Motivated to give back to the Montreal community, Emily has
collaborated with the organization La SAMs, offering personalized and engaging concert
programs for assisted care facilities with violinist Solana Frebold as part of the ensemble
Duo Mystique.
Stéphanie Lavoie, clarinette
Stéphanie Lavoie began playing the clarinet at the age of 11 in her high school’s senior
band, where she discovered her passion for music. She went on to study natural
sciences and music at Cégep de Sainte-Foy, before completing a bachelor’s degree in
classical performance at Université Laval under Mélanie Bourassa.
In May 2023, she obtained a masters degree in classical performance with distinction at
the Université de Montréal, where she studied with André Moisan. The following year,
she continued her studies by obtaining a Diplôme d’études supérieures spécialisées en
extraits d’orchestre, specialising in orchestral repertoire. A keen chamber musician, she
formed the Arboréal trio for clarinet, cello and piano, with whom she performed at
Phillips Square and the Jardins Gamelin as part of the Midis à la carte series organised
in collaboration with the Quartier des Spectacles. She is also a member of the Quatre
Clarinettes Montréal quartet, made up of Jérémie Arsenault, Flavien Delmas and Jack
Lau.
With a view to training the next generation of musicians, Stéphanie teaches clarinet at
the Conservatoire de musique de Saguenay, the École de musique de Verdun and as
part of the Lumi dans les Quartiers programme, which aims to make music accessible to
all.
