Biography

Born in Saint-Bruno-de-Montarville, Gisèle Guibord began playing the piano at the age of 7. At 16, she entered the Conservatoire de Montréal where she studied the pipe organ with Bernard Lagacé and won her Interpretation Prize in 1978. A recipient of several scholarships from the Fondation Les amis de l’art and the Canada Council for the Arts, she studied in Europe with Ton Koopman, Lionel Rogg and Harald Vogel.

Renowned soloist in Quebec (Les Concerts Spirituelles de l’Oratoire Saint-Joseph, Les Amis de l’Orgue, Pro Organo, Radio-Canada) she also gives many concerts in Europe (Germany, France, Italy, Switzerland). In 1990, she gave recitals in Rome under the auspices of the Canadian Embassy to the Holy See. Throughout her career, Gisèle collaborated with various Canadian composers, of whom she created several works: Serge Arcuri, Raynald Arseneault, Barrie Cabena, Raymond Daveluy, Jacques Faubert, Jean Lesage and Serge Provost.

Her discography, on the Fonovox label, includes a disc of Canadian music for organ, sacred airs with soprano Colette Boky and Chemin de Croix by Raynald Arseneault with soprano Natalie Choquette. Titular organist at the Sanctuaire du Saint-Sacrement in Montreal from 1982 to 1999, she also accompanied the Petits Chanteurs de Laval, the Petits Chanteurs du Mont-Royal and Angèle Dubeau on Quebec tours.

In 1993, while Gisèle had a solid career as an organist, she began studying the Paraguayan harp and the Celtic harp with Robin Grenon. Since 1996, the duo Robin Grenon-Gisèle Guibord has traveled across Quebec and Ontario, introducing various audiences to the vast repertoire of the traditional harp.
