Biography

Born in 1978 in Nancy, Johann Vexo worked with Christophe Mantoux at the Conservatoire de Strasbourg where he obtained the first prize of organ. He continued his studies at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris with Michel Bouvard and Olivier Latry for the organ, as well as Thierry Escaich and Philippe Lefebvre for improvisation. He has won several awards including First Prize for Organ, First Prize for Continuo Bass and Prizes for Harmony and Counterpoint. Appointed at the age of 25 organist of Notre-Dame de Paris, Johann Vexo is also holder of the great organ Cavaillé-Coll of the cathedral of Nancy as well as organ teacher at the Conservatoire and the Academy of Music of Strasbourg. Invited to many international festivals, Johann Vexo gives concerts in Europe, the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Russia.

As a soloist or with orchestra, he has performed in Atlanta, Auckland, Chicago, Geneva, Los Angeles, Melbourne, Montreal, Munich, New York, Porto, Saint Petersburg, San Francisco and Vienna, in places such as the Wanamaker Grand Court of Philadelphia, the Westminster Abbey in London, the National Shrine in Washington, the KKL in Lucerne, Saint Mary’s Cathedral in Sydney, the Moscow Conservatory and the Metropolitan Cathedral in Mexico City. At the same time, Johann Vexo was invited to teach organ as part of master-classes for the American Guild of Organists as well as at various universities (Rice University in Houston, Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, University of Michigan, Folkwang Universität in Essen or University of Aveiro in Portugal). He has made several recordings on French historical instruments, including one under the label JAV Recordings at the great organs of Notre-Dame de Paris. Johann Vexo is represented exclusively in the United States and Canada by Phillip Truckenbrod Concert Artists, LLC.
