Recognised for the singularity of his artistic voice and the depth of his playing, pianist Emmanuel Roberts Dugal offers a poetic and contrasting concert in which virtuosity, sensitivity, and refinement come together through works by Johann Sebastian Bach, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Johannes Brahms, and Maurice Ravel.

Biography

Reconnu comme « l’une des voix les plus uniques de sa génération au Canada et aux ÉtatsUnis » (Music Performance Trust Fund, 2023), le pianiste Emmanuel Roberts Dugal s’impose comme un musicien polyvalent et passionné.

Lauréat de nombreux concours, Emmanuel se distingue au Concours de la Capitale à Québec, au Festival-Concours de Sherbrooke, à Classival et, plus récemment, au concours de piano Auguste-Descarries. En 2019, il remporte le troisième prix à la finale nationale du Concours de musique du Canada à Calgary. En 2022, il gagne le concours OMNI, ce qui lui permet d’interpréter le deuxième concerto de Rachmaninov avec l’Orchestre Métropolitain sous la direction de Yannick Nézet-Séguin.
Emmanuel se perfectionne auprès de maîtres de renom dont Bertrand Chamayou, Robert Levin et Ronan O’Hora en piano, ainsi que Nicholas Mann, Seth Knopp, Natasha Brofsky, Efe Baltacıgil et Yura Lee en musique de chambre.

Sa curiosité musicale et sa soif d’apprendre l’amènent à explorer des répertoires variés, allant de la musique baroque à la musique symphonique, en passant par l’opéra. En 2024, il se rend au Schubert Institute de Baden bei Wien (Autriche), où il étudie la poésie et les lieder allemands auprès de Helmut Deutsch, Julius Drake et Roger Vignoles. Pianiste-collaborateur recherché, Emmanuel se consacre également à l’accompagnement vocal et à l’interprétation des mélodies et des lieder.

Issu d’une famille de musiciens, Emmanuel commence le piano à l’âge de 8 ans. À 10 ans, il est admis dans la classe de Suzanne Goyette au Conservatoire de musique de Montréal. Il poursuit actuellement ses études sous la tutelle de Stéphane Lemelin à la Schulich School of Music de l’Université McGill, où il prévoit d’obtenir son diplôme au printemps 2026. Il bénéficie du soutien de plusieurs bourses, notamment celles du Fonds AÏDA de la Fondation des Jeunesses musicales (2024), de la Fondation Desjardins (2024), de la Music Performance Trust Fund (2023) et plus récemment, la prestigieuse Bourse d’Étude de la Fondation Hnatyshyn (2025).

Recognised as ‘one of the most unique voices of his generation in Canada and the United States’ (Music Performance Trust Fund, 2023), pianist Emmanuel Roberts Dugal has established himself as a versatile and passionate musician.
Winner of numerous competitions, Emmanuel has distinguished himself at the Concours de la Capitale in Quebec City, the Festival-Concours de Sherbrooke, Classival and, most recently, the Auguste-Descarries Piano Competition. In 2019, he won third prize at the national finals of the Canadian Music Competition in Calgary. In 2022, he won the OMNI Competition, which allowed him to perform Rachmaninoff’s Second Concerto with the Orchestre Métropolitain under the baton of Yannick Nézet-Séguin.
Emmanuel honed his skills with renowned masters such as Bertrand Chamayou, Robert Levin and Ronan O’Hora in piano, as well as Nicholas Mann, Seth Knopp, Natasha Brofsky, Efe Baltacıgil and Yura Lee in chamber music.

His musical curiosity and thirst for learning led him to explore a wide range of repertoires, from Baroque to symphonic music and opera. In 2024, he attended the Schubert Institute in Baden bei Wien (Austria), where he studied German poetry and lieder with Helmut Deutsch, Julius Drake and Roger Vignoles. A sought-after accompanist, Emmanuel also devotes himself to vocal accompaniment and the interpretation of melodies and lieder.

Born into a family of musicians, Emmanuel began playing the piano at the age of 8. At 10, he was accepted into Suzanne Goyette’s class at the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal. He is currently pursuing his studies under Stéphane Lemelin at McGill University’s Schulich School of Music, where he plans to graduate in the spring of 2026. He has received support from several scholarships, including those from the AÏDA Fund of the Jeunesses Musicales Foundation (2024), the Desjardins Foundation (2024), the Music Performance Trust Fund (2023) and, most recently, the prestigious Hnatyshyn Foundation Scholarship (2025).
