Jacques Giroux

In addition to his artistic career, organist Régis Rousseau devoted several years to management in the cultural sector, serving as Director of the Orgue et couleurs Festival in Montreal (1999–2008), Director of the Conservatoire de musique de Saguenay (2008–2014), and Director of Studies (2014–2020) for the Conservatoire de musique et d’art dramatique du Québec network.

A graduate of the Conservatoire de musique de Chicoutimi (First Prize in organ), he continued his studies at Concordia University (Artist Diploma) and at the Université de Montréal (Doctorate in Music), and also pursued two years of advanced training in France (CNSM de Lyon). He served as organist in several churches in Saguenay and Montreal, but his most significant position was as titular organist of the Casavant organ at Très-Saint-Nom-de-Jésus Church (Montreal, 1994–2008), where he co-founded the Orgue et couleurs Festival, for which he received the 2002 Opus Award for Artistic Director of the Year from the Conseil québécois de la musique. Since May 2021, he has been the organist at Saint-Léon Church in Westmount.

Beyond the organ, his primary instrument, he has always been passionate about choral singing. In addition to working with various parish choirs, he founded the Opus Novum choir in Montreal in 1999, which he directed for ten years. Since 2021, he has been the conductor of La Schola Cantorum de Québec, a vocal ensemble based in the Capitale-Nationale region.
