Biography

Jean-Willy Kunz has been the Organist-in-Residence of the Montreal Symphony Orchestra since 2013. In this role, he develops and showcases the Grand Orgue Pierre-Béique, while performing regularly in concerts and recitals. He has played under the direction of conductors such as Rafael Payare, Kent Nagano, Masaaki Suzuki, Leonardo García Alarcón, and François-Xavier Roth, and has appeared as a soloist with several Canadian orchestras, including the Orchestre symphonique de Québec, Les Violons du Roy, the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, and the Calgary Philharmonic.

At the Maison symphonique, he has premiered numerous works for organ and orchestra by composers from here and abroad. In 2017, he took part in the first Earth-Space organ duo during a concert presented in collaboration with NASA and the Canadian and European space agencies.

Curious and versatile, he collaborates as readily with jazz, pop, and contemporary musicians as with baroque ensembles. His discography reflects this diversity, featuring recordings with the OSM, the ensemble InSpirations, Pierre Lapointe, and others.
