Jennifer Szeto is a distinguished graduate of the Atelier lyrique de l’Opéra de Montréal, the Adler Fellowship of the San Francisco Opera, the Ensemble Studio of the Canadian Opera Company and the Merola Opera Program. A sought-after collaborator in contemporary creation, Jennifer was for five seasons the founding artistic director of Musique 3 Femmes, a creative company that commissions and develops operas by female creators, with a focus on raising the profile of emerging female composers and librettists in this field. At the Opéra de Montréal, Jennifer was recently pianist for George Benjamin's Written On Skin and Golijov’s Ainadamar. She was musical director of the world premiere of L’hiver attend beaucoup de moi by Laurence Jobidon and Pascale St-Onge. Jennifer sits on the board of the Opera Association of Canada, where she was a mentor on the RBC Future Launch grant. Previously, she was Program Manager for Women in Musical Leadership, Tapestry Opera’s internship for emerging, non-binary women conductors in partnership with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra and Pacific Opera Victoria. In 2023, she will participate in Opera America’s Leadership Intensive, a programme for emerging leaders in opera administration. Passionate about championing young artists and the field in general, Jennifer began her tenure in 2023/24 as Director of the Atelier lyrique de l’Opéra de Montréal.
